In 2024, Hive & Cob became proud permanent stallholders at the iconic Salamanca Market in Hobart, Tasmania. Joining this vibrant, world-renowned community of makers, growers, and creatives has been one of the most exciting steps in our journey as a small family business.

Salamanca has given us more than just a stall, it’s given us a space to connect directly with locals, tourists, and fellow producers. Week after week, we meet people from all walks of life who are curious, kind, and full of enthusiasm for Tasmanian-made products.

 

We’ve had incredible conversations, shared stories, swapped tips, and even found new suppliers through market connections. The community at Salamanca Market is warm, supportive, and filled with people who are genuinely passionate about what they do.

For us, it’s been a chance to showcase what makes Hive & Cob so special. Our handmade popcorn, coated in a delicate caramel made from rare Tasmanian Leatherwood honey, is a hit with both locals and visitors. We’ve received wonderful feedback about the unique floral notes of the honey, the lightness of the snack, and the joy of discovering a truly Tasmanian treat.

One of the unexpected highlights, travellers love that our product is lightweight and has a long shelf life, making it the perfect gift or carry-on snack. Our popular Triple Pack often finds its way into suitcases as a “one for now, one for later, one for a friend” bundle. Our Hive & Cob package design, with a clear window in the shape of Tasmania, means people can see exactly what they’re buying and proudly gift something that looks and feels like Tasmania.

It’s not just about the popcorn. For us, Salamanca has also been about growth. Audrey, who co-founded Hive & Cob as a young teenager, now gets hands-on experience in customer service, sales, and retail, gaining confidence and skills in a space that celebrates local enterprise. It's been a fantastic opportunity for us both to evolve as producers and as people.
